In what could signal the next wave in hand-held digital communication, Samsung Electronics of Seoul, Korea, is introducing a cell phone without a keypad.

Instead of a traditional keypad for dialing numbers, the new Samsung phone has a touch-sensitive computer screen. Users can select numbers to dial on the touch screen. They can also type in text messages and use the phone as a hand-held computer – which in fact it is.
The appliance Samsung calls a PDA (for Personal Digital Assistant) Phone resembles a Palm hand-held computer, but is narrower for easier use as a phone. But the PDA Phone will offer all the functions of a hand-held computer -- including the ability to surf the web.
