John O’Rourke won more than just bragging rights after being named Independent Contractor of the Year by the Truckload Carriers Assn. — he also received a new Eagle 9300 Hi-Rise Pro Sleeper premium conventional tractor. The contest honors the most outstanding independent contractor based on his/her ability to run a successful business, operate safely and enhance the trucking industry’s public image. O’Rourke, an owner-operator contracted to Harleysville, PA-based Guy Heavener, has driven more than 2.5 million accident-free miles without a moving violation. Valued at more than $100,000, the grand prize Eagle was donated by Navistar International Transportation Corp.
