Commerce Dept. Adjusts Trailer Sales Data

The U.S. Department of Commerce has revised trailer sales data for 1998 from 344,312 units to 277,419 units. This is more in line with manufacturer surveys done by Economic Planning Associates which put 1998 total sales at 280,350

The U.S. Department of Commerce has revised trailer sales data for 1998 from 344,312 units to 277,419 units. This is more in line with manufacturer surveys done by Economic Planning Associates which put 1998 total sales at 280,350.

EPA President Peter Toja said he expects the government to revise its 1999 preliminary figures sometime next year. The Commerce Dept. estimates 1999 sales at 274,198 units, down 1.2% from 1998. Van sales were 215,029, up 7.7% from 199,690 units in 1998. Non van sales were 59,169, down 12.9% from 1998's 60,189 units.
EPA's surveys put total 1999 trailer sales at 301,840 units, up 7.7% from 1998. Van sales totaled 233,100, up 9.4% from 1998's 213,000. Non van sales were 68,740 in 1999, up 2.1% from 67,350 units in 1998.
