The future of a trucking industry charity event is still uncertain as Feed the Children takes steps to regain a trust betrayed by allegations that employees at its Nashville office took donations for themselves.

Nashville TV station NewsChannel 5 reports Feed the Children President Larry Jones has shut down the charity's Nashville office while the organization conducts an internal audit. Everyone who worked there has been fired and the facility closed while an inventory is done and the charity decides what steps to take to keep something like this from happening again.
Feed the Children partnered with Comdata and others in the trucking industry last year to raise money and gather food donations in the 18 Wheels of Hope food drive.
Last week, the TV station showed video from months of surveillance showing the entire Nashville Feed the Children administrative staff carting home boxes of goods, apparently for their own use. The footage prompted an investigation by Tennessee authorities, who raided the homes of Nashville Feed the Children employees and confiscated goods believed to have been taken from the warehouse.
"While we still believe the national organization is not involved, our relationship with Feed the Children is under internal review and a decision will be forthcoming soon regarding the future of our event," said Tony Holcombe, president of Comdata, in an open letter on the 18 Wheels of Hope web site (http://www.18wheelsofhope.com).
