J.B. Hunt is inducting nearly 2,000 drivers into its $50K Club, which recognizes drivers whose total compensation exceeded $50,000 last year.

The 1,930 drivers inducted represents a 50% increase over last year’s club. The average amount earned in 1998 for the van over-the-road driver was $49,222, with the top pay over $78,000.
Last year was the first full year drivers experienced the increased pay package J.B. Hunt established in 1997. The new package pays experienced hires 40 cents per mile. The company reports that since the package was implemented, accident frequency has fallen 40%, workers’ compensation claims have fallen 25% and freight claims have dropped 20%. Turnover has dropped dramatically, as well.
Since its creation in 1995, the $50K Club has recognized nearly 3,900 drivers.
