The prices of diesel and oil moved lower over the past week, while gasoline has barely edged higher. New figures released Monday from the U.S. Energy Department show the average cost of diesel has fallen 1.1 cents over the past week.

Construction Spending Increases, Manufacturing Declines

Total spending in the United State on construction remains volatile. while manufacturing has declined. A new report from the U.S. Commerce Department show construction spending in April increased 0.4% from the month before. In March activity fell 0.8%, after rising in February and declining 4% in January.

New Jersey Passes Misclassification Bill; Gov. Christie Could Veto

New Jersey port truckers would be considered employees under legislation passed Thursday.

Opponents of an "employee misclassification bill" passed Thursday by the New Jersey state Senate say they will continue to work to make sure the measure does not actually become law. The legislation creates a presumption that a work arrangement in the drayage trucking or parcel delivery trucking industries is an employer-employee relationship.
