Daimler Vans USA is recalling 55 2015-2016 model-year Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vans because the windows might separate during a crash, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported.

The safety recall covers vans manufactured April 1-Oct. 31 in 2015.

These vehicles may have had multiple layers of paint applied. Consequently, during a crash, the windows may separate from the vehicle when the outer layer of paint peels from the layer below.

“If the windows separate from the vehicle in a crash, the occupants are at a greater risk of injury,” NHTSA said on its website.

Dealers will remove the windows, inspect the paintwork, and repaint the vehicles as necessary. There will be no charge for this service.

Vehicle owners can reach DVUSA customer service at (770) 705-2070.
