G.I. Trucking, La Mirada, CA, has launched a new truck tracking and monitoring safety program.

The company will use three Ford Explorers equipped with radar systems to spot-check the speeds of company trucks, limited to 55 mph by company policy.
One unit will be positioned in the Northern region that covers the states of Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Northern California. Another unit will be located in the Midwest region for the states of Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma and New Mexico. The third unit will cover the Southern region, including Southern California, Arizona, Nevada and Utah.
The safety units will also work with drivers on roadside inspections of trucks, including brake performance and other maintenance requirements affecting safe operations. They will also be equipped with hazardous material response kits.
Three safety supervisors will be responsible for day-to-day operations of the program. They include two G.I. Trucking drivers and another professional who have extensive backgrounds in freight operations safety, according to the company.
G.I. Trucking is a less-than-truckload carrier and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Arkansas Best Corp. of Arkansas.
