DOT Invites Comments on Drug/Alcohol Testing Changes

The U.S. Department of Transportation will host an electronic bulletin board discussion of proposed changes to drug and alcohol testing rules from April 3 through April 5.
DOT recommended changes, unveiled late last year, would require labs to test all specimens for adulterations and substitution attempts. If tampering is discovered, it would be reported as a refusal to test.
Medical Review Officers would be allowed to report positive test results to all employers of a person being tested, not just the employer who ordered the test.
The agency also wants more training for people involved in alcohol and drug testing and a "public interest exclusion" procedure that would prohibit the use of service agents that don't meet DOT standards.
The bulletin board is being set up for anyone who has questions regarding the proposal and as a way for people to submit comments.
