Five more motor carriers have asked that mandatory financial reports be withheld from public release.

Under federal regulations, all for-hire carriers with operating revenues over $3 million annually must file annual or quarterly reports with the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Those reports, which include financial and operating data, are available to other government agencies and the public. However, carriers that can show that disclosure would cause competitive harm may request an exemption from public release. Before granting the exemptions, BTS publishes the names of the carriers and allows time for public comment.
Two dozen carriers, including Schneider National, Contract Carriers, Lester Coggins, Melton and Umthun Trucking, are awaiting approval. North American Van Lines is included on this latest list. Others are Annette Holdings, D&A Truck Line, LTI Inc. and Kaplan Trucking Co.
Exemption requests and comments can be found on the Docket Management System (http://dms.dot/gov). Docket number for this list, published Oct. 25 in the Federal Register, is BTS-99-6375. Comments are due Nov. 24. The docket number for the previous 24 requests is BTS-99-5889. Comments on those requests were due Oct. 4.
