Con-Way Transportation Services Inc., Ann Arbor, Mich., has completed, signed and submitted the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) application with the United States Customs Service.
In addition it has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency for the Partners in Protection (PIP) security initiative.
The two programs are part of the Free and Secure Trade (FAST) Highway Carrier Application Process. The FAST program is designed to tighten security at the U.S./Canada border while maintaining the free flow of low-risk trade by utilizing dedicated traffic lanes for trucks. Under FAST the carriers, drivers and their shipments are approved for crossing prior to reaching the border.
Con-Way's actions were taken on behalf of each of its operating companies. The $2 billion transportation and services company provides time-definite and day-definite freight delivery services and logistics for commercial and industrial businesses.
Con-Way is a subsidiary of Palo Alto, Calif.-based CNF Inc., a $4.9 billion management company of global supply chain services with businesses in regional trucking, air freight, ocean freight, customs brokerage, global logistics management and trailer manufacturing.
