U.S. Xpress Enterprises has ordered 500 of Volvo’s new VN highway tractors.

Delivery of the VNL780 models will begin in the second quarter of 2003, and are expected to extend over a 12-period. One hundred of the vehicles will be equipped with Volvo VE D12 engines; the remainder will be equipped with Cummins ISX engines.
The new Volvo VN model was introduced Aug. 20 and is the company’s first step in meeting new federal diesel engine emissions requirements scheduled to take effect Oct. 1. Shortly after the introduction, Knight Transportation announced it is purchasing the new trucks, as well.
“Since its introduction only a few weeks ago, the new VN model is generating a tremendous amount of positive feedback from our customers and dealers,” said Scott Kress, Volvo senior vice president - sales. “We’re very pleased that U.S. Xpress, which has been a valued Volvo customer since 1998, has decided to add the new VN to its first-class fleet.”
