A 10-mile section of I-4 in Florida was closed today because of a raging wildfire.

The 9,000-acre fire burning out of control near Polk City in central Florida jumped to the south side of the Interstate. Traffic is being diverted from the interstate at Highway 33, a detour that will add an hour or more to travel times.
Fire officials say the drought and recent freezes mean fire conditions are even worse than they were in 1998, when 500,000 acres burned across the state. Even the swamps are dry.
