A Good Review for SuperTruck Program

Truck and engine manufacturers report significant efficiency gains as a result of the public-private “SuperTruck” program. An interim assessment of the Energy Department’s collaborative effort says that the concept vehicles are closing in on a 50% improvement in freight efficiency and a 20% improvement in engine efficiency.

TRALA Reports Progress on D.C. Diesel Ban

The Truck Renting and Leasing Association reports progress on an industry effort to fix the District of Columbia’s move to ban certain diesel engines. TRALA, speaking for a coalition that includes American Trucking Associations as well as local trucking interests, said the D.C. government is willing to rewrite a budget bill that would in effect ban the engines.

APG Books Return Orders for Dual-Fuel Gas-Diesel Systems

Clarke Power assembled this Freightliner glider with a Detroit Series 60 engine equipped with APG’s dual-fuel system, enabling it to run on natural gas and diesel. Gas is stored in liquefied form on this tractor.

The company says its dual-fuel gliders outperform and are more reliable than dedicated natural gas engines that customers are evaluating.

CNG Vehicles Affected by Fuel Tank Pressure Relief Valve Recall

Certain pressure relief valves for use on compressed natural gas fuel tanks are being recalled by Circor, which does business as Circle Seal Controls. The affected valves have O-rings that could fail after being exposed to cold temperatures, allowing natural gas to leak from the fuel tank.
