After falling for two straight months, the Freight Transportation Services Index gained 1.8 percent in November from its October level
, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics.
In November, Freight TSI landed at 96.2, a 2.9 percent boost from the recent low of 93.5 reached in May. In May, the index was at its lowest level in more than a decade since June 1997. The Freight TSI is down 14.7 percent from its historic peak of 112.9 reached in May 2006.
The index has risen in four of the last six months, with an overall increase of 2.9 percent over that time.
The freight TSI measures the month-to-month changes in the output of services provided by the for-hire freight transportation industries. The index consists of data from for-hire trucking, rail, inland waterways, pipelines and air freight.
