Paper Transport Adds 20 Natural Gas-Powered Kenworth T660s To Regional Fleet

Paper Transport began testing two Kenworth natural gas trucks in 2012 and this spring the company became one of Kenworth’s first customers to run CNG-powered Kenworth T660s with the Cummins Westport ISX12 G engine, according to the company.

Test Drive: KW T800, ISX12 G Paired

My drive of the Cummins Wesport ISX12 G was at a mid-July “natural gas summit” hosted by Kenworth at its plant in Chillicothe, Ohio. A half-dozen gas-powered KWs built for different applications were offered to dealers, customers and press reporters for inspection and evaluation. A few fellows with CDLs, like me, took them for drives, and I had – how shall I say? – a learning experience while in a T800 short-haul daycab tractor pulling a 53-foot van trailer.

Paccar is recalling a little more than 800 Kenworth model year 2010-2012 T4 and W9 series vehicles because of a risk of a vehicle fire. The trucks affected were manufactured Nov. 13, 2009, through Aug. 26, 2011.

More Than 1,300 2014 Kenworth and Peterbilt Trucks Being Recalled

A National Highway Traffic Safety Administration notice says an internal defect in the ignition switch causes the starter to engage when a key is partially inserted before the key is turned, and could cause injury to a person working in the engine compartment. Vehicles with standard transmissions may experience unexpected movement, which may result in personal injury or a crash.
