A new government report is predicting diesel prices will be lower than a previous forecast, due to an expected decline in the price of oil along with other factors. The U.S. Energy Department’s Short-Term Energy Outlook says after averaging $3.97 per gallon last year, on-highway diesel prices are expected to average $3.90 per gallon this year.

In its Short-Term Energy Outlook report, the Energy Information Administration projects that Brent crude along with diesel prices will see a slight decrease in 2013 and 2014.
EIA projects that the Brent crude oil spot price, which averaged $112 per barrel in 2012, will fall to an average of $105 per barrel in 2013 and $99 per barrel in 2014.
