Element Financial Corp. has closed its acquisition of GE Capital's U.S. fleet business and will now turn its attention toward integrating the two entities, the Toronto-based company announced Aug. 31.

Toronto-based Element Financial Corp. has entered an agreement with General Electric to acquire GE Capital's fleet business in the U.S., Mexico, Australia and New Zealand for $6.9 billion.

GE to Sell Fleet Management Unit by 2018

General Electric will sell off its fleet management and automotive financing business units by 2018 under a strategic plan to focus on its core businesses and shed most of its finance and banking businesses, the company has announced.

GE Capital: 27% of Fleets Expect to Expand Within a Year

Average revenue of firms surveyed that operate vehicle fleets was $191.7 million. Those companies employed an average of 1,439 people.

About two-thirds of executives at middle market companies ($10 million - $1 billion in sales) with responsibility for their company’s vehicle fleets, surveyed by GE Capital saw improved overall performance and improved financial performance compared to the same period a year ago. Many are making plans to expand their fleets, hire more workers and grow revenue in the year ahead.

Forty-four percent of fleet managers cited maximizing productivity as their primary concern in managing their company’s truck fleet, according to a recent survey conducted by GE Capital Fleet Services.
