Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder has signed S.B. 995 into law on Dec. 9, authorizing electronically coordinated truck platooning on Michigan roads by creating an exception to the state’s minimum following distance for commercial vehicles.
Project to Test 'Platooning' Trucks
A new Federal Highway Administration research project will test "platooning" two trucks with the goal of saving fuel and decreasing traffic congestion. The team will research partial automation for two-truck platooning, integrating vehicle-to-vehicle communications with adaptive cruise control.
