Crowds were decent on Saturday, but not overwhelming. It was a good day for walking the show and a good opportunity to get close to the exhibitors. Photo by Jim Park

Saturday at Mid-America is usually the biggest day, but it turned out to be not quite as big as everyone expected. While the crowds were stronger than expected on Friday, numbers were down on Saturday. That was good news for show-goers, as it was actually possible to walk the aisles and get close to the trucks. Equipment Editor Jim Park spent the day wandering the show and took these photos.

At 8:15, just as the sun was breaking over Freedom Hall on Friday morning, the temperature was a chilly 36 degrees. Photo: Jim Park

Day 2 of MATS got off to a sunny but cold start -- a pleasant change from Day 1, when rain spoiled the day for anyone outdoors. Exhibitors seemed to think the crowds on the first full day of the show were better than any in recent years.

We got out to the show and shine area just as the sun was dipping below the buildings. Even that late in the day the cleaning and polishing was going on at a brisk pace.

Show truckers were on site at the Mid-America Trucking Show Wednesday with the polish out and the rags a-flying, and Jim Park was there with his camera to capture final touches being put on the trucks for the Paul K. Young Truck Beauty Championship.

Mid-America Trucking Show 2014, Day 3

Don't let anyone tell you that the classic-styled trucks are dead. Peterbilt's Model 389 drew crowds all weekend, as did Western Star and Kenworth with their long-nose models.

Saturday in Louisville, Ky., was windy, blustery and rainy -- great weather for an indoor trade show, not so good for those wanting to see the truck beauty competition outside. Inside it was warm and dry, and attendees got some valuable one-on-one face time with the hundreds of exhibitors.
