One southbound lane and two northbound lanes are now open on Interstate 15 in Nevada near Moapa, after a section of the route was closed more than a week ago.
Restrictions on commercial vehicles have been lifted, according to the Nevada Department of Transportation. However, over-dimensional vehicles are still required to obtain permits prior to using this route.
A severe rainstorm flooded the area near Moapa on September 8 with 5 inches of rain in two hours. I-15 was severely eroded by flood waters in the Moapa and Glendale areas, between mile markers 91 and 93. Maintenance crews responded to clear and reopen the road to traffic in just four days.
One lane in each direction reopened on Sept 12, but commercial vehicle were prohibited from taking the northbound route during certain hours of the day.
Between the time the route was shut down and the partial reopening, all vehicles were forced to take detours, with the one for commercial vehicles being around 200 miles along a U.S. highway and a state route, leading to long delays.
More than 25,000 vehicles, including many commercial vehicles, travel the affected area of I-15 each day, according to the Nevada DOT.
