Kraft Foods is discontinuing its nationwide private truck fleet, resulting in the elimination of around 285 jobs by the end of the year.
"We plan to use contract and other commercial carriers to handle the volume of our fleet,” said Joyce Hodel, Kraft spokesperson, in an interview with The Morning Call. “This is part of our broader integrated supply chain focus on supplier integration, to use the scale and capabilities of our strategic supplier partners."
The private fleet moves products and materials across Kraft's network of plants and distribution centers, according to published reports.
People will be let go in three phases with the first phase set to take place in June.
Kraft Foods owns numerous and well known food brands including Jell-O, Cracker Barrel cheese, Kook-Aid, Maxwell House, Oscar Mayer, Miracle Whip, Velveeta and Planters, among many others.
