The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration announced Friday that 8,000 more health professionals have been added to the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners since the new system for U.S. DOT medical examinations launched last month with 22,000 providers.

Drivers whose medical exams were conducted by the late Dr. Paul Besdansky, Garden City, Ga., need to get a reexamination, says the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. Besdansky was in failing health toward the end of his life and was not conducting proper exams, the agency said.
