XPO Logistics has announced plans to nearly double its current last-mile footprint to 85 service hubs by late 2018.

The expansion is currently underway and is aimed at growing XPO’s last-mile footprint to within approximately 90% of the U.S. population to reduce transit times. The company provides last-mile logistics in North America, facilitating nearly 13 million home and commercial deliveries with the majority including installation and assembly of appliances, large electronics, furniture and other hard-to-handle items each year.

XPO expects to open its next eight hubs in Birmingham, Ala.; Buffalo, N.Y.; Jacksonville, Fla.; Long Island, N.Y.; Los Angeles, Calif.; Milwaukee, Wis.; Tulsa, Okla.; and Washington D.C. Teams at each facility will be able to perform inspections, repairs, pre-assemblies, and other value-added services in preparation for delivery, according to XPO.

“We’re continuing to make significant investments in our facilities, technology, staffing and training to deliver world-class solutions for our customers,” said Troy Cooper, COO of XPO Logistics. “As the leading national last-mile network specializing in heavy goods, we’re uniquely positioned to provide a consistent consumer experience that protects retail brands. Now we’re making it even faster and more cost effective to transport goods direct to homes.”
