McClendon Trucking, a 66-year-old family-owned fleet in Lafayette, AL, plans to add at least 150 tractors to its fleet in the next few months, primarily through owner-operator units.

President James McClendon, whose grandfather and father founded the company, says the company is responding to customer demand for increased capacity and additional lanes. The company currently operates more than 500 tractors and 950 trailers in 30 states.
To help meet its expansion goals, McClendon has launched a referral program. All employees and owner-operators receive $500 for each successful referral. For each three owner-operators or drivers referred, they will be entered into a quarterly contest, with top prize being a choice of a set of eight Bridgestone tires, a Disney World trip and cruise or a Caribbean cruise, each valued at about $3,000. In September, there will be an additional driver for Talladega NASCAR race tickets. And at the end of the year, there will be a drawing for the winner's choice of a Ford Ranger extended-cab pickup or a Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
