Nov. 12 – The Oregon Trucking Assn. wants to replace the state’s weight-distance tax with a diesel fuel levy and higher vehicle registration fees. OTA says while this would generate the same amount of revenue for the state, it would save trucking companies millions of dollars spent filing the paperwork.
If you’d like to know how much you would pay under OTA’s proposed alternative, which it plans to present to the Oregon Legislature in January, you can log onto OTA’s web page at http://www.ortrucking.org. There you can download a spreadsheet that will tell you how much you would pay under the proposed 25-cent-per-gallon diesel fuel tax and new registration fees. (Oregon doesn’t currently collect a diesel tax from commercial highway users.)
