Nov. 13 – An electronic toll system went into effect this week on New Jersey’s smallest toll road.
E-Z Pass made its debut Wednesday at two Atlantic City Expressway toll plazas and five ramps.
The state’s busiest highways – the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway – won’t get the system until 2000, reports the Associated Press.
Already in use at New York area tunnels and bridges, the toll system uses windshield-mounted transponders to provide information to readers at tollbooths. The system automatically identifies the driver’s account and deducts the toll.
