Nov. 6 – The federal government is taking comments from the public through Dec. 3 on the agreement reached last month between engine manufacturers, the federal Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Justice Department.
The deadline for comments is Dec. 3 on the consent decree, which has engine makers paying $1 billion in fines, environmental projects and engine improvements. The decree was signed to settle EPA allegations that engine makers programmed their engines to fool emissions tests. (http://www.heavytruck.com/tn/news.html#981028.1000)
Comments should be addressed to the Assistant Attorney General of the Environment and Natural Resources Division, Department of Justice, Washington, D.C. 20530. The notice of the consent decrees published in the Federal Register Tuesday (a separate decree for each engine manufacturer) gave a brief summary of the agreements. You can access the Federal Register online at http://www.access.gpo.gov/su_docs/aces/aces140.html.
