Sept. 21 — Paccar rejected an offer by union workers at the Madison, TN, Peterbilt plant to return to work without a signed contract.
About 1,200 hourly, unionized workers walked off the job May 3 after rejecting a deal to replace a contract between the United Auto Workers and Peterbilt. After nearly five months, the UAW Local 1832 offered to return to work unconditionally and continue to negotiate. Paccar officials, however, turned the offer down, according to Peterbilt spokesman Todd Acker, preferring to wait until there is a signed contract.
