Got Questions? Sleeper Cab Power Experts

Q. What are the benefits of an inverter/charger compared to charging batteries via alternator?

A. Inverters with built in chargers, are handy when plugging into an external AC plug (like at a truck stop) to keep the batteries charged and to feed the AC loads directly from the shore power. Some Xantrex combination inverter/chargers can even temporarily de-rate the chargers when heavy AC loads are present, like a microwave, to prevent over-current on the shore power, then bring the charger back to full output when the heavy load is turned off.
