A. Xantrex offers a variety of inverter options for all classes of trucks. From a Class 8 perspective, Xantrex inverters are offered as factory option by the leading heavy duty truck brands.
A. When the truck is turned off, the charge to the battery stops. Any load attached and turned on will drain the battery. One way to prevent over-discharge is to turn some loads off, especially larger loads.

A. An APU’s primary function is to take care of a truck’s heating and cooling systems. It has its own motor that charges the truck batteries and provides power for AC electronics.

A. It is difficult to answer this question without having all the facts. Typically, the inverters sold at truck stops are not designed to handle demanding, heavy loads. A portable induction cooktop with a single burner consumes roughly 1500W of power.
A. Yes, many Xantrex models have adjustable low voltage disconnects to help protect your batteries from over-discharge.
A. Inverters with built in chargers, are handy when plugging into an external AC plug (like at a truck stop) to keep the batteries charged and to feed the AC loads directly from the shore power.
A. These inverters installed on the assembly line at major truck manufacturers were mounted outside and were waterproof. These were heavy and expensive too.
A. In "most cases" yes. And that’s another benefit. If it is just an inverter then all you're doing is taking power from the battery and turning it into AC power.

A. Several of the Li battery makers recommend AGM setting for their batteries. The Freedom 458 is not designed to charge lithium ion batteries.
