Fleet FAQ

Got Questions? ELD and Telematics

Q. How can the ELD display screen be configured to reflect special driving categories such as yard moves or personal conveyance?

A. It is not required for fleets to configure its driver user accounts to authorize or note a special category. However, if the fleet does configure the ELD display to note a special driving category, then the graph-grid will overlay periods using a different style line, e.g., a dashed line, dotted line, or shading. The appropriate abbreviation must also be indicated on the graph-grid.

No matter how fleet and company leadership elects to indicate a special driving category, it must be in accordance with section 4.8.1.3(c)(1) of the ELD Functional Specifications.

If the fleet does configure the driver user account to authorize special driving categories, then the driver must annotate the beginning and end of the applicable special driving category.
