The company's employees recently completed their sixth Con-way Cares drive, collecting donated goods from employees throughout the company, as well as customers and suppliers, which were then packed and shipped to their fellow employee/soldiers. The packages went to 10 soldiers stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan, and seven deployed stateside.
The Con-way organization started the Con-way Cares initiative two years ago as a support program for co-workers deployed overseas. Over the past two weeks, Con-way employees prepared and shipped out 156 care packages totaling 4,302 pounds of donated items - marking the company's sixth and largest shipment to date. Items collected include everything from clothing to magazines, books, hard candies, bottled water, shampoo, soap, other snacks and foodstuffs - even flea collars (which the soldiers wrap around their boots to keep sand fleas at bay).
Similar efforts are under way at other Con-way Freight locations nationwide.
