ArvinMeritor Inc. has announced that its Commercial Vehicle Systems (CVS) trailer systems (axle and suspension) manufacturing location in Wrexham, North Wales, U.K., opened a 90-day redundancy consultation process with its union, AMICUS, and non-union elected staff representatives.

About 199 employees responsible for trailer axle and suspension assemblies at the Wrexham facility will be potentially affected by this process.
Several alternative manufacturing locations have been identified, and a final decision on the new site will be announced soon.
"This is an undesirable and difficult position for our business and our employees," said Sergio Carvalho, vice president and general manager of CVS Trailer Systems. "The decision to open a redundancy consultation process with employee representatives is based upon the business need to more closely align ourselves to the needs of our current and future customers."
The company emphasized its continued commitment to and investment in the European trailer axle and suspension business. "A solid management and operations team has been put together to ensure consistent delivery, quality and product performance during this transition," added Carvalho.
In addition to the potentially affected manufacturing and functional employee base, approximately 25 employees will remain at the facility providing product design, engineering, sales and business support to its customers until alternatives are found.
