The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance has reched a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Department of Energy Office of National Transportation.
Yucca Mountain.
Yucca Mountain.
The agreement involves the possible movement of nuclear materials by highway to the Yucca Mountain in Nevada.
The federal government has selected Yucca Mountain as the nation's first long-term geologic repository for spent nuclear fuel and high-level radioactive waste currently stored at 126 sites around the nation. These materials result from nuclear power generation and national defense programs.
The agreement involves outreach by the alliance to help inform the public of safety measures being developed as well as a comprehensive peer review of those measures, specifically what is called the North American Standard Level VI Inspection.
The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance is an association of state, provincial, and federal officials responsible for the administration and enforcement of motor carrier safety laws. In addition, CVSA has more than 470 associate members including truck and bus companies, industry associations, insurance companies, manufacturers, safety product and service providers, research organizations, commercial vehicle drivers, academia, and individuals dedicated to highway safety.
