According to the CTIA wireless association web site, Qualcomm plans to launch a nationwide network to help U.S. wireless service providers broadcast television programming to wireless phones.

The company said it will invest $800 million over the next four to five years. Qualcomm has already acquired licenses to broadcast in a frequency band that has been used for television channels. Besides providing trucking mobilecom and tracking, Qualcomm manufactures chips and licenses technology to wireless phone makers.
