A fire along Interstate 84 near Cascade Locks (about milepost 44) in Oregon closed the interstate in both directions about noon Tuesday and no specific time has been determined for reopening.

Eastbound I-84 is closed at Troutdale (about milepost 17). Westbound I-84 is closed at Hood River (about milepost 64)
Officials at the command post at the Port of Entry in Cascade Locks were to determine when the fire and smoke no longer pose a direct threat to travelers. But after that, ODOT must inspect the roadway before the interstate can reopen.
Trucks should not use Washington SR 14 because bridges in the area of the fire are limited to 80,000 pounds and SR 14 is winding.
Eastbound truck traffic should use U.S. 26 (Mount Hood Highway) to OR 35 or OR 97 to rejoin Interstate 84 at or east of Hood River.
Westbound trucks should take OR 97 near Biggs or OR 35 at Hood River, south to U.S. 26, and then west to Portland.
Single-trip permit holders must obtain a new permit to use the detour routes.
