Cummins Westport Inc. has received its first order for the B LPG Plus propane engine that was commercially launched last month.

California's Ontario International Airport has ordered 20 Cummins Westport 195-horsepower B LPG Plus engines using liquid petroleum gas (LPG). They will be installed in 32-foot, commercial buses manufactured by DaimlerChrysler Commercial Buses of Greensboro, N.C.
The shuttle buses, to be delivered by early 2004, will carry travelers and employees between the airport's terminal buildings and parking lots. These buses will replace older, LPG-powered buses currently in service, and after this order, 100% of the airport's bus fleet will use the Cummins Westport 195-horsepower B LPG Plus engine.
Hugh Foden, president of Cummins Westport said, "The airport needs a robust and reliable bus engine because their fleet operates 24 hours a day, 5,000 hours per year with minimal downtime. As we continue to build market awareness, we are confident more mid-size truck and bus customers will also see the value of choosing our proven Plus technology for their next LPG engine."
The B LPG Plus engine is certified to emit 12% less oxides of nitrogen and non-methane hydrocarbons and 70% less particulate matter than the coming 2004 ceilings established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for heavy-duty trucks and buses.
