The first new generation Volvo VN tractor left the New River Valley assembly plant in Dublin, Va., last week for delivery to a waiting customer, less than three months after its introduction to the North American trucking industry.

The first new VN -- a VNL670 complete with an EPA'02-compliant engine -- will enter fleet operation in the next few weeks.
The new Volvo VN was introduced in mid-August. Since then, Volvo Trucks North America has quickly moved from pre-production assembly to series production of customer vehicles at New River Valley. Regular production of the new VN began Nov. 6. Volvo has received more than 3,400 orders for the new VN since its introduction.
Volvo Trucks North America is a member of the Volvo Group, a publicly held company headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden. With annual sales of about $18 billion, Volvo's business areas include heavy trucks, buses, construction equipment, marine and industrial drive systems, aerospace and financial services.
