Aether Systems announced that Skinner Transfer Corp., a Wisconsin-based motor carrier, has selected Aether MobileMax2, Aether's wireless communications system, for its fleet of 150 trucks.

Skinner Transfer, which provides general truckload services across the United States, plans to install the MobileMax2 system on 100 vehicles by the end of 2001 and complete installations on its entire fleet in 2002.
Aether MobileMax2 uses a dual-mode modem that automatically switches between terrestrial (land-based) and satellite communication pathways without driver or dispatcher intervention. The MobileMax2 data terminal transmits data messages and GPS position reports over both satellite and terrestrial communication pathways and provides data on vehicle fault codes and driver performance.
"In order to expand our business and remain competitive in today's marketplace, we are always seeking ways to drive operational efficiencies and improve productivity," said Steve Skinner, Vice President of Operations for Skinner Transfer. "Aether MobileMax2 gives our business that competitive edge."
Skinner Transfer is a family owned and operated truckload carrier founded in 1932.
