A new international cargo handling facility has opened at the Port of Tampa.

The Intermodal Shipping Center was built by Intermodal Shipping Services Inc., a division of Tampa-based A.R. Savage and Son Inc. Both are located in the new facility, along with Savage Shipping Co.
The shipping center consists of a container yard and container freight station on 16.6 acres. In addition, a 12,000-square foot office building and 20,000-square foot warehouse are located there. The warehouse can be expanded to 80,000 square feet.
A 1,000-foot railroad spur and 24-hour manned gate access are other features of the new facility. A new Electronic Data Input service, which performs routine billing functions by computer, will soon be online, according to center officials.
The center is West Florida's largest full-service intermodal facility for bonded trucking, bonded container yard, bonded container freight station, ocean forwarding and ship agency services, according to the company.
