Novatel Wireless, Inc., San Diego, Calif., wants a piece of the growing market for telematics -- wireless technology in vehicles. The provider of wireless data modems has announced an expansion of its OEM vehicle tracking and fleet management efforts.

Novatel will work through its AVL (Automatic Vehicle Location) relationships with a number of OEM suppliers.
Novatel, which provides Internet connectivity hardware for handheld and laptop computers, also has relationships with a number of wireless service providers, including Verizon and AT&T.
Novatel’s Minstrel series of wireless modems for handhelds operates on CDPD networks, which are becoming increasingly popular, particularly for local and regional fleet applications.
