A former Consolidated Freightways employee has been awarded more than $1.1 million in a sexual discrimination lawsuit.

The company plans to file post-trial motions to have the verdict overturned.
A federal jury last week awarded Robin Lawrence, a former sales representative, $20,000 in lost wages, $125,000 for emotional distress and $1 million in punitive damages, according to The Kansas City Star.
The 45-year-old single mother of four was the only female sales representative at the company's Kansas City office, according to the newspaper. In the more than two years she worked there, she said she was given more responsibility without more money, was the target of abusive and demeaning comments by her manager, and was given assignments not given to male employees "because they had a family." After she resigned, her replacement was a man who was paid nearly $200 more per week, plus given an assistant, company car and other benefits that Lawrence did not have in the same job.
