Connecticut banned tractor-trailers from state highways this morning as part of preparations Northeastern states are making for a massive winter storm moving into the area.
According to the Associated Press, Connecticut Gov. John Rowland issued an executive order banning rigs from state highways in response to accidents involving trucks in past storms that have paralyzed highways. The ban, which went into effect at 5 a.m., will remain in effect until further notice.
The Massachusetts Turnpike has also banned doubles and propane tanks until further notice.
Forecasters are expecting the Nor'easter to rival the blizzard of 1978, with an expected 2 to 3 feet of snow before it ends. More than a foot of snow had already fallen by Monday morning in parts of updstate New York. Massachusetts reported snow as well as freezing rain and sleet in some areas. The storm is expected to reach its peak tonight and Tuesday.
