Phoenix-based Swift Transportation is planning to spend $3.8 million to buy nearly 30 acres of land in the Port of Tacoma's Frederickson industrial area.

According to published reports, the company is planning to spend $8.5 million developing the terminal facility and expects to employ about 260 workers at the facility.
Port commissioners will consider approving the sale in two weeks. If given the go-ahead, as expected, the sale is scheduled to close by Feb. 1.
