All weigh stations in the state of Florida will soon be automated, thanks to an exclusive agreement with PrePass,
an electronic system that lets truckers bypass the stations if they comply with state safety credentials.
"This will enable the department to concentrate on commercial vehicle enforcement, save motor carriers time and increase on-time deliveries," said Tom Barry, secretary, Florida Department of Transportation, in a statement.
PrePass will allow qualified motor carriers to comply electronically with state weight, safety and credential requirements at highway speeds. Participation is voluntary.
PrePass will be deployed at 19 locations across the state.
