Big Freight Systems of Steinbach, Manitoba, Canada, has joined the Transportal Network, the cooperative Internet venture based in Atlanta.

Big Freight Systems, the first Canadian-based carrier to Join Transportal, operates in all Canadian provinces and the 48 contiguous states. The 300-power unit company specializes in flatbed and step deck freight.
Transportal is assembling what it has called a "virtual fleet" to operate as a single entity, taking advantage of volume discounts on one side, sophisticated truckload operations software on the other and passing the benefits on to members.
According to Transportal, its web-based fleet now consists of 33 companies that represent nearly $2.5 billion in revenue, 20,000 tractors, and 40,000 trailers.
