Landstar System, Jacksonville, Fla., has deployed a business-to-business wireless Internet phone service for its North American contractors and employees.

Through AT&T Digital PocketNet service, Landstar's 7,100 owner-operators can access the Landstar web site using Internet-ready phones. On the site, they can choose freight and make other business decisions. AT&T Digital PocketNet service gives unlimited access to Landstar's corporate databases, schedules, weather, street maps, e-mail and contact information for wireless phone screens.
AT&T Digital PocketNet service uses the AT&T Wireless IP (Internet Protocol) network with Internet-ready phones from Mitsubishi and Ericsson. For Internet access the phones work on AT&Ts Cellular Digital Packet Data (CDPD) network available in more than 3,000 cities across the United States.
