Navistar International says it will layoff approximately 400 employees at its Chatham, Ontario, assembly plant next month.

In the June 13 SEC filing of its quarterly financial report, the company cited an industry-wide decrease in orders for heavy duty trucks, noting that its own order backlog dropped from 55,400 units at the end of April, 1999, to a "more normal" 31,100 units on April 30, 2000.
This is the second production cut for the Chatham plant, which laid off approximately 400 workers in March.
