A fatal truck crash at the Canadian border renewed complaints about the traffic tie-ups that idle trucks for miles as they wait for entry into the United States.
On Monday, a tractor-trailer smashed into a truck at the end of a long line waiting to cross from Quebec into the United States at the Champlain entry point on I-87. Quebec Provincial Police told the Associated Press that ruptured gas tanks burst into flames and the driver of the truck that caused the collision burned to death.
A similar incident also occurred last November.
In March, more than $1 million in federal funding was announced for interim improvements to the port over the next two years, but members of the community say the changes need to be made sooner.
